Relationship between Angora goats and humans

Angora goat, brought from Tibet to Ottoman Turks by nomads, have been carefully protected and raised as a source of Mohair, the finest fiber. The goat travelled to Africa for the first time in 1838; a female goat sent to Africa by the Ottoman Emperor was pregnant, and fortunately a baby goat was born.

Supply from safe and ethical farms

Raw hair of DANDE is obtained only through MOHAIR SOUTH AFRICA: an organization consisted of farms, assemblers and raw material processors.
We use "Kid Mohair", such a delicate fiber with 26-32 μm in diameter, sheared twice a year from young angora goats raised at safe and ethical farms that are fully compliant with Mohair Industry’s Sustainable Guidelines.

LINDSAY HUMPHREYS

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MOHAIR SOUTH AFRICA

In many industries the term “Sustainability” was never considered to be more than a buzz-word – a trend that will run its course and slowly fade over time. People spoke about “going green” and “conservation” without real understanding, only ticking the boxes that would keep their clients and the public happy.

However, more than a decade ago Mohair South Africa recognised sustainability as an integral part of mohair production and the broader value chain. We knew sustainability, ethicality and responsible practices were not going anywhere, and we realised certain measures had to be put in place to ensure the survival of our environment, our farms and our animals.

This has been an ongoing process, and will continue to be Mohair South Africa’s top priority going forward. Over the past year our efforts towards a completely ethical and responsible industry has intensified greatly. Starting at ground- level with local mohair producers, and constantly engaging reputable organisations from across the world, who share our passion for this industry.

Our aim is to supply the world with a fibre that can be consumed with complete peace of mind, without compromising on quality and luxury.
